Study: Pre-procedural risk factors largely drive 30-day readmissions

Risk factors presented by patients admitted for PCI are a more significant predictor of 30-day readmission rates than post-procedural factors, according to a three-year study published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes. Congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, age and being female were among the significant pre-procedure risk factors for readmission, while noteworthy post-procedure factors included the lack of a beta blocker prescription at discharge and bleeding complications, according to two models developed by Massachusetts General Hospital researchers.
