Property/casualty insurers in Ohio will begin charging homeowners' insurance policyholders a new deductible for wind and hail damage. Insurers have been charging similar deductibles in other states, according to the Ohio Insurance Institute. "There's a new normal out there regarding disaster risk in Ohio, especially due to losses associated with wind, rain and hail," said Mary Bonelli, a spokeswoman for the institute. "Insurers are looking at ways to reduce costs and keep policies affordable."
