Private exchanges attract employers

Private health insurance exchanges are up and running, serving primarily large employers that want to offer employees defined-contribution options. The new state and federal exchanges serving primarily individuals are supposed to operate similarly to private exchanges, and plans offered on private exchanges will be subject to Affordable Care Act criteria. Advocates say private exchanges ease burdens on employers and allow employees economical choices and variety.
