Microsoft launches "Companion Web" initiative for linking apps

Microsoft worked with Polar to develop a reference application that can link multiple platforms, such as mobile devices, PCs and television sets, Frederic Lardinois writes. The development is part of Microsoft's "Companion Web" initiative, which employs existing Web standards. Meanwhile, The Independent newspaper in London reports that Microsoft is developing a smart-watch prototype made with aluminum oxynitride, a transparent material that is "three times harder than glass," Nick Farrell writes.
