Professor: Protect funding for social, behavioral science

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is one of several lawmakers who have called for cutting funding for behavioral and social science, writes Sandra Hofferth, a professor at the University of Maryland School of Public Health, in this opinion article. Lawmakers may claim the money could be better spent on other types of research, but Hofferth maintains that social and behavioral research are critical for understanding health issues and ultimately promoting a better quality of life.
