Seattle light-rail project may add contingency funds

Federal officials have asked Seattle's Sound Transit to add $150 million in contingency funds to the budget for its 3.15-mile light-rail link to the University of Washington. The Federal Transit Administration requested the additional funds after seeing cost overruns in other rail projects across the country due to the high-risk nature of tunnel construction. Sound Transit has estimated the cost of the project at $1.7 billion.
