Senate committee holds HIT hearing

"Critical linkages" are needed to connect health care providers and ensure quality care, according to congressional testimony provided by Kaiser Permanente CEO George Halvorson. He wants an HIT system that prompts physicians, allowing them to provide consistent care along with a registry that stands alone for those who don't have access to the integrated system. Sen. John Rockefeller, D-W.Va., suggested making the adoption of HIT a precondition for Medicare and Medicaid.
