Ala. algae-to-fuel project fails to get $45 million federal grant

The SouthEast Region Algae Consortium has failed to secure a $45 million federal grant it needed to build a pilot-scale algae-to-fuel plant in Hoover, Ala. The plant, which would have been built next to a wastewater-treatment facility, would have harvested oil from algae and processed sugars, wastewater and carbon dioxide into biofuels and other products.
