Algebra prep program offers more than lessons in math

Students participating in the Stepping Up to Algebra summer program at a California middle school learn about math through hands-on activities, computer programs, games and more, but the program also seeks to help students envision their long-term goals. Visiting a college campus and learning about available majors is a key component of the program. "For many of our students this is the first time they've been on a college campus, and many would be the first in their families to attend college," says Muhammed Chaudhry, CEO of Silicon Valley Education Foundation, sponsor of the SUTA program.
