Child abuse linked to increased suicidal risk among drug users

Drug users who were severely abused as children had a substantially greater risk of attempting suicide than those who had no history of child abuse or who experienced less severe abuse or physical or emotional neglect, according to a Canadian study in the American Journal of Public Health. Researchers found that emotional abuse was associated with the highest suicidal risk, followed by sexual and physical abuse.
