The construction sector contracted by 31% in Oregon during the Great Recession, but industry leaders in the state want young people to consider entering the field to replace an aging worker population. To entice them, a new pre-apprenticeship program has been created to get teens on job sites. In addition, career-technical education programs have received a financial boost. One student in the pre-apprenticeship program said, "I really loved concrete finishing. I didn't realize there was so much to the field."
