Intel redoubles Atom chip efforts in light of lower sales forecast

The shrinking market for personal computers continues to be a strain on Intel, with the chipmaker announcing in its latest quarterly report that it will cut capital spending this year to reflect changes to its sales forecast. Chief Executive Brian Krzanich told investors that the company will continue its aggressive mobile push, with plans to accelerate the commercial rollout of its Atom mobile chips. "Intel was slow to respond to the ultra-mobile PC trends," Krzanich said. "We will move Atom even faster to our leading-edge silicon technology."
