Cordray says data collection necessary to protect consumers

In this wide-ranging interview, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray says the data-collection efforts of consumer and banking industry information is necessary to understand the marketplace. "What we're looking for is what are the patterns of consumer behavior? Are there particular issues where people are being treated poorly on different mortgages?" he says. "It's that kind of information in the aggregate that gives us line of sight into what's going on."
