Patent trolls have an enormous advantage in the war against startup developers, argues an unnamed CEO that is part of a group testifying in Washington this week. The trolls don't have to be specific in their charges until well into litigation -- and after legal expenses have already mounted, Timothy B. Lee writes. And even when a company such as Jump Rope wins an appeal, it often faces continuing threats of further litigation, says CEO Peter Braxton, one of the many reasons the Application Developers Alliance is currently lobbying Congress for patent reform.
