Marriage amendment languishes in Congress

A proposed constitutional amendment that would ban marriage equality nationwide has attracted fewer than 40 co-sponsors in the House, though the measure this week picked up its first Democratic supporter, Rep. Nick Rahall of West Virginia. Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., introduced the legislation after the Supreme Court decisions in the DOMA and Proposition 8 cases, but so far House Republican leaders have not indicated they would act on it.
