Cruise industry faces a regulatory "minefield"

Around the world, the cruise industry is facing a number of regulatory changes. In the U.S., the cruise industry will be required to bolster transparency when it comes to reporting onboard crimes. Cruise lines also must comply with new security and surveillance provisions. Other countries also are subjecting the industry to new regulations, raising issues related to jurisdiction. "There is always a concern about different countries adopting new rules," said Carnival Cruise Lines CEO Gerry Cahill. "It does make it more difficult."
