Lockheed Martin makes thousands of voluntary-layoff offers

Lockheed Martin has offered about 6,500 employees voluntary layoffs as the defense contractor seeks to further reduce its workforce. "Based on our experience about 2% of eligible employees, or about 130 people, may take this offer," said Jennifer Whitlow, a spokeswoman for Lockheed. The company cut about 3,300 positions this year.
