Windows software sales are down at Microsoft

Microsoft reported that profits increased 30% to $5.87 billion during its fiscal fourth quarter, compared with $4.52 billion a year earlier, while revenues increased 8.5% to $17.37 billion. Sales for the division behind the Xbox and the Kinect were up 30%. Sales in the Windows unit declined 1%, however, to $4.74 billion, as consumers shifted toward smartphones and tablet computers rather than Windows-based PCs.
