La. man receives advanced treatment for necrotizing fasciitis

A Louisiana man is undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy at Baton Rouge General Medical Center's advanced wound care department after a cut on his leg became infected with Vibrio vulnificus bacteria. Surgeons at Terrebonne General Medical Center performed seven surgeries to remove infected tissue and prevent amputation. Three other area residents have been infected this summer with the naturally occurring bacterium.
