Report offers insight into transplant-related rabies death

A report in the Journal of the American Medical Association details the investigation into the death of a patient who contracted rabies through a kidney transplant. Three other recipients of transplants from the same donor are doing well after the administration of preventive therapy. Rabies transmission in transplant cases is exceedingly rare, CDC epidemiologist Dr. Sridhar Basavaraju said.
