Executives at National Instruments tried to negotiate better health insurance premiums, but eventually realized that unless they focused on making their workforce healthier, they would have to pass along additional costs to employees. Now workers have incentives -- including financial ones -- to improve their health, and the company helps them out by offering exercise areas, a clinic and health assessments.
