Analysis: Was the 3DTV doomed from the start?

Three-dimensional television sets were the hailed as the next big thing at the 2010 International CES, and now they're passé, Ted Kritsonis writes. What happened during the intervening years? "There is no single answer to that question, but a variety of factors may have led to 3D’s seeming irrelevance," he writes. "The introduction of 3DTVs around 2010 came smack dab in the middle of the fallout from the financial crisis, and TV sales were already flattening before the first 3D flat-panels could hit retail," he adds.
