NIRS detects lipid core plaque, offering new hope of predicting STEMI

Lipid core plaque, which when it ruptures causes the majority of STEMI events, has for the first time been seen in living patients using intracoronary near-infrared spectroscopy via catheter. "It is our hope that this signature may be capable of predicting MI before it happens," said interventional cardiologist Dr. Ryan D. Madder.
