R.I. paid leave law will offer help for family caregivers

Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee signed into law a bill offering up to four weeks of leave, at two-thirds pay, to tend to a seriously ill relative or a new baby. California and New Jersey also have paid leave laws, and the Rhode Island measure, which takes effect Jan. 1, will be paid for by an overall increase in worker payroll deductions.
