EPA funds anti-idling upgrades for 29 New England locomotives

The Environmental Protection Agency has allotted $850,000 from its 2010 National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program to refit 29 locomotives with anti-idling devices. The locomotives, all belonging to rail lines in the northeastern U.S., are projected to save 207,368 gallons of fuel in a year and more than 2 million gallons over 10 years.
