Retailers prepare textbook-rental services

Hundreds of bookstores are offering college students the opportunity to rent the textbooks they need for school as textbook prices have continued to rise by as much as four times the rate of inflation. Barnes & Noble will debut its rental program at more than 300 colleges nationwide; Follett, a campus bookstore operator, will do the same at 800 schools.
