LG reports handset gains, smaller loss than predicted

Results at LG Electronics' mobile handset division, a high-margin area, helped the company offset weaknesses in its flat-screen TV business in the second quarter as the company sold 24.8 million phones, up 2% from the previous period. These results led LG to report a smaller loss in its wireless division than analysts had expected.
