Holder seeks renewed oversight of Texas' voting laws

Attorney General Eric Holder is taking Texas to court in a bid to reassert federal oversight of the state's voting laws. The Supreme Court recently struck down provisions subjecting Texas and other southern states to automatic oversight, but Holder says Texan officials' recent actions were discriminatory, triggering a separate section of the Voting Rights Act. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, countered: "This decision has nothing to do with protecting voting rights and everything to do with advancing a partisan political agenda."
