How spatial-skills training can improve math learning

Recent research suggests that having strong spatial skills -- understanding of the three-dimensional world -- is a predictor of better math performance and future success in science, technology, engineering and math. One recent study found that short spatial-skills training sessions get the brain ready to learn about math. Researchers in another study suggest that playing action-based video games can help build spatial skills, and that encouraging girls to play such games could help narrow the gender gap in STEM.
