Social media is part of teacher's strategy for student engagement

Christopher Kauter, a high-school social studies teacher in Deer Park, N.Y., recently was accepted into the Google Teacher Academy -- in part, for his work in using technology, including social media, to engage students in lessons. Among other things, Kauter has created a mobile Web application that connects students to Twitter and organizes a calendar of assignments, class notes, grades and other information.
