HHS is asked to withdraw proposed HIPAA disclosure rule

The Medical Group Management Association urges HHS to revisit its proposed HIPAA rule on the accounting of data disclosures and come up with a consensus-based solution before finalizing the rule. "Considering how infrequently physician practices receive these requests from patients, the proposed rule fails to meet the statutory requirement to balance the needs of patients with the burden on providers," MGMA CEO Dr. William F. Jessee said.
