Feds to hold drilling safety talks with industry after Gulf gas well blowout

Federal offshore energy regulators seek to hold drilling safety discussions with industry officials following a natural gas well blowout and rig fire in the Gulf of Mexico last week. The rig is operated by Hercules Offshore and the well is owned by Walter Oil and Gas. Such incidents "serve as a reminder that industry must rededicate its efforts to make safety its top priority, including in shallow water," said James Watson, director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.
