Winning the battle of IT versus everyone else

Many companies' greatest block to innovation is the tumultuous relationship between information technology workers and the rest of the organization, former Google Chief Information Officer Douglas Merrill said at a recent conference. IT departments often think of security as the priority, he said, and that can mean clamping down on some of the best tools. Security is important, Merrill said, but IT workers should focus on better infrastructure, not trying to limit the way other people work.
