Senate Republicans block small-business bill

Senate Republicans blocked a bill to create a $30 billion fund to increase lending to small businesses because they say Democrats wouldn't consider amendments to extend tax breaks and limit federal spending. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he would work with Senate Republicans to reach a compromise, but action before the chamber's August recess looks unlikely, experts say. NFIB and other business groups have backed the measure.
