Crowdfunding is generating headlines, but for startups, the practical effect of a campaign is still minimal, largely because only the donation model is permitted in the U.S. Additional models likely are on the horizon. However, a problem that is not so easily addressed is a lack of knowledge and expertise by startups, leading to wasted capital, according to this blog post.
