SAMHSA: Extreme heat poses health risks for people with mental issues

Children and older adults suffering from mental and substance abuse disorders are at greater risk from illnesses caused by exposure to excessive heat, according to the Substance and Mental Health Services Administration. The use of psychotropic drugs and substances has been linked to increased risk of heat stroke and other heat-related conditions, the agency said.
