Shims may help Calif. Bay Bridge open sooner, officials say

A temporary repair for broken bolts on the Bay Bridge in California involves installation of shims to help avert movement during an earthquake. The repair "is moving forward rapidly" and could help the bridge open in September, before the original December opening date, according to the California Department of Transportation.
