Tesla sets sights on Chinese consumers

Tesla plans to introduce its electric Model S sedan to Chinese motorists by opening a showroom in a high-end Beijing mall. Luxury brands are popular with well-off Chinese consumers, and it's hoped that Tesla's success with wealthy U.S. drivers will turn it into a status symbol in China. "The Model S may be a good way for the Chinese to say, 'I'm wealthy, but also environmentally responsible,' " says analyst Mike Omotoso.
