Dermatologic surgeon discusses cosmetics and allergies

Cosmetics and makeup removers can contain fragrances, preservatives and other ingredients that can cause allergic skin reactions, says dermatologic surgeon Noëlle Sherber. A dermatologist can prescribe anti-inflammatory treatments and provide guidance for a healing skin care regimen to use until the allergen can be identified, Sherber says. Patients with extremely sensitive skin should use only baby skin care products, gentle cleansers and plain oils, she says.
