Geriatric training for long-term care

Retention of a geriatric fellowship program's clinical training in long term care was examined by Harvard researchers. In spite of three-month blocks of long-term-care rotations and weekly rounds, faculty felt their geriatric fellows were not ready to be leaders in the long-term-care arena. After a needs assessment, system-based practice and practice-based learning and improvements were built into the curriculum. This successful program has been offered since 2005 and extended to include other postgraduate learners. (Free abstract only.)
