NCI calls for changing the definition of cancer

Growths that may or may not become invasive should be called something other than cancer, experts with the National Cancer Institute wrote in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Treating all lesions like cancer has led to expensive and sometimes dangerous overtreatment, and screening frequency should be reduced for low-risk lesions in low-risk individuals, the researchers said.
