Exhibition showcases newest medical innovations

The SIGGRAPH 2006's Emerging Technologies exhibit, expected to draw a crowd of 25,000, will feature an MIT-created robotic bear -- complete with sensors, "sensitive skin," and audio and video monitoring equipment -- designed to monitor sick children. Other new technologies include an open heart surgery simulator, allowing surgeons to practice operating based on three-dimensional images of a patient's heart before the actual surgery, and an artificial retina system that transmits visual images via electrodes hidden in a sweatband.
