Steak 'n Shake franchisees challenge corporate policies

Steak 'n Shake franchisees in Colorado are fighting back against a lawsuit from the company alleging the family didn't use corporate-designated menus and raised prices as much as $2.29 per item more than the national pricing structure. Larry and Kathryn Baerns said through their lawyer that "[Steak 'n Shake's] attempt to terminate the Denver area franchise agreements is clearly retaliation against the Denver owners for daring to raise questions about the fairness of the corporate policies." Three other lawsuits dealing with franchisee pricing practices were filed earlier this year in Indianapolis.
