Medication prescription may fuel misuse among youths

Twenty-two percent of middle- and high-school students who had taken one or more prescribed controlled medications in the previous year reported misuse of such medications, a study in the Archives of Pediatrics found. Data indicate that children who misused the medication were also more likely to use, sell or give the drugs to others compared with those who took the medication properly. Abuse was also more likely among those who used pain, sleeping and anti-anxiety medications more frequently, researchers added.
