A Consumers Union report used Medicare mortality and length-of-stay data to rank 2,463 U.S. hospitals in all 50 states based on the quality of surgical care. The rankings found some large hospitals, including the Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins, were listed between "better" and "worse" and were outranked by many smaller hospitals.
