Rural Md. county expects businesses to flock to new fiber net

The near-completion of a fiber-optic broadband network in rural Carroll County outside Baltimore has sparked interest from businesses considering relocating to the area, officials say. The network links more than 100 sites, including schools, government offices and public libraries, with enterprises allowed to come on board after Aug. 31. The network is designed to support download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.
