Energy, environmental programs brace for cuts under debt-limit bill

Supporters of U.S. clean-energy and environmental programs are bracing for budget cuts under the compromise debt-relief bill approved by Congress. Department of Energy programs on biofuels, fuel cells, synthetic fuels, wind and nuclear power could be among those targeted, said former Rep. James Walsh, R-N.Y. "The numbers are just too vague, but obviously we don't feel we're in a good place," said Scott Slesinger, legislative director for the Natural Resources Defense Council.
