Intensivist leads Toronto hospital's tracheostomy team

The multidisciplinary tracheostomy team at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto offers a twist on the usual model by allowing an intensivist to control care and work with specialty services. The group includes a respiratory therapist, speech language pathologist and intensivist, and their goal is to wean patients from tracheostomy tubes as quickly as possible and identify and educate those who will need the intervention longer, possibly even at home following discharge.
