Results stir debate over standardised tests in England

Results of the Standard Assessments Tests, or SATs, released this week in England, have stirred debate on their usefulness, as they are used by the government to rank schools. More than a quarter of the country's primary schools boycotted the tests. Scores for 11-year-olds showed small gains in maths and writing and a dip in reading. Teacher-union representatives say the tests do not provide a true reflection of student's work.
