NRC dives into California water fight

A panel of engineers and other experts assembled by the National Research Council has begun a two-year study of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta -- a 700-mile web of levees, shipping canals and rivers that has become a flashpoint in California's water wars. The panel's reports could influence efforts to secure the region's water supplies, preserve endangered fish species and restore degraded waterways.
